What this work involves
Migrations go wrong in the plan, not the weekend. We start by deciding what actually moves: which mailboxes, which file shares, which teams, and which of the last five years of files no one has opened. Moving less is usually the cheaper, safer answer.
From there it is a sequence. A small pilot group moves first, with both systems running side by side so work continues. Then mail, files, and teams, and finally the switch. A short window afterwards settles whatever the pilot did not catch.
Moving between two Microsoft cloud accounts uses the same method, for acquisitions, spin-offs, and rebrands, including people's sign-ins and both accounts running side by side. Permissions get reviewed on the way through rather than copied wholesale, which is where files end up open to more people than intended.
